When I think about process I remember the elements of art: line, shape, value, texture & color. I encourage students to put those together in a simple order: organize, clarify and then energize. We have a tendency to get caught up in the winning of the race before we have begun to run and through this simple connection the same applies to art making. We often times get caught up in the energy of the finish or pressure to create a final product before we even have and idea. I emphasize process over product in the classroom. We learn one painting at a time.
